CITB Course

Course Overview

The 2-day CITB SMSTS Refresher Training course is designed for individuals who have previously completed the 5-day SMSTS or 2-day SMSTS Refresher course. SMSTS certificates remain valid for five years from the date of issue.

By completing the SMSTS Refresher course, delegates receive updates on construction legislation and best practices, while strengthening managerial skills to meet modern legal responsibilities.

Important Information

• Expired certificates require completion of the full SMSTS course
• CITB e-certificates are issued within 2–3 weeks
• Attendance on both days is mandatory

• Manage health and safety in line with current legislation
• Understand legal, moral, and social responsibilities
• Identify and mitigate site hazards
• Prepare risk assessments and statutory documents

• Legislation & ACOP updates
• Upcoming and proposed legislation
• RIDDOR – accident statistics and prevention
• HSE focus areas in construction
• Safety management systems
• Contractor management
• Communication & consultation techniques
• Behavioral safety
• Syndicate exercises

Assessment

The final assessment consists of 25 questions:

• 18 multiple-choice questions (1 mark each)
• 7 short-answer questions (2 marks each)
• Pass mark: 81% (26 out of 32)

Accreditation

This course is accredited by CITB – Construction Industry Training Board under the Site Safety Plus scheme.

Prerequisites

• Valid SMSTS or SMSTS Refresher certificate
• Good understanding of spoken and written English
